Three myths about balancing your hormones

Three myths about balancing your hormones

Myth One: Men don’t have to worry about hormone function

Truth: Men do have to support their hormones. Here is why:

  • Men have hormones too! Research says 50% of infertility comes from the male side. Here are some common mistakes men make and what you can do instead:

    • High Stress: Stress can lower testosterone and increase estrogen, which causes mood imbalances, excess body fat, fatigue, and more!

    • INSTEAD: Add more things you keep your cool

      • Meditate

      • Long walks

      • Confide in your partner or a trusted friend

Myth Two: You don’t have control over your hormones

Truth: You DO have control!

  • Our hormone function depends on our HPATG axis. This means our thoughts and environment are key into hormone balance. Here is what you can do to support them:

    • Positive thinking! Yes, your brain is sending signals through the HPATG axis on how to respond to its environment.

    • Nutrition: SURPRISE! LOL We need nutrients in order to make hormones AND support function. Examples:

      • Zinc: Pumpkin seeds, shrimp, chicken

      • B6: Turkey, dark leafy greens, avocado

      • Protein: Chicken, bison, lentils

    • Reduce stress: Chronic stress/overwhelm increases cortisol, which causes hormone imbalance like fatigue, excess body fat, pain, headaches, anxiety and more.

But this is GOOD news, this means we have control over our happiness & health. YAY!

Myth Three: HIIT is the best exercise

Truth: We need a balance of healthy movement - too much cardio or intense exercise can do more harm than good.

  • Interval training can be harmful to our hormones. If we are already in a high stress state, HIIT will cause more stress & inflammation on the body

  • Instead… we want to add:

    • Strength training 8-12 reps

    • Walks

    • Hiking

    • Yoga

    • Pilates

    • Things you love!
