Supplements, do I need them? If so, which ones and why?

In short:

Do we need them? It depends.

Three buckets for typical usage:

  1. Maintenance due to:

    • Food supply, genetics, lifestyle

  2. Therapeutic due to:

    • Needing to get out of the gutter, extra boost back to normalcy, help optimize current health status

  3. Rapid relief due to:

    • Getting out of pain // discomfort quickly. Example: Support sleep or digestive system (constipation, gas, etc…)


Top nutrient deficiencies I see:

  1. Zinc (Oysters, pumpkin seeds, eggs)

  2. Omega-3 (Salmon, walnuts, chia seeds, flax seeds)

  3. Magnesium (Dark leafy greens, almonds, broccoli)

Quality + brands are important! Better for you to take nothing than cheap Costco brands.  

Remember:

Supplements can never replace real foods. So eat lots of colors, healthy fats, and proteins!
